Welcome
to the premiere of Create Now!’s bi-monthly ezine. Each
issue will include highlights about our healing arts programs with the most
troubled children and youth in Southern California. We hope that you’ll
visit our website to learn more about our work with thousands of kids who
are abused, neglected, abandoned, orphaned, homeless, runaways, foster youth,
teen parents, victims of domestic violence, gang members or part of the juvenile
justice system. We welcome your support and hope that you’ll
spread the word about Create Now! by sharing this ezine with
your friends and associates. Together, we can change the cycles of abuse
and violence in our community to make this a better world.

Create Now! is distributing hundreds of tickets for many cultural
events this summer so that the most troubled kids in Southern California
can experience the arts. Click
here to see a list of the concerts that we’re coordinating, along
with details about the children and youth who are benefiting.
Create Now! received an invitation from Yahoo! They wanted to collaborate
with us to bring 200 homeless youth to attend Opening Night at the Hollywood
Bowl on June 23, 2006.
So Create Now! contacted a number of different homeless shelters in Los Angeles. The following facilities brought their children and youth, along with a few parents.
Alexandria House - Los Angeles
Comunidad Cesar Chavez - Boyle Heights
Covenant House - Hollywood
LA Youth Network - Hollywood
Los Angeles Family Housing - North Hollywood
Union Station Foundation - Pasadena
We coordinated the distribution of the tickets and arranged for the youngsters' transportation. Yahoo! treated all the homeless youth to their t-shirts (which were in hot demand by everyone nearby), as well as drinks and snacks.

On
Saturday, June 10th, 2006 Create Now! was honored to be the recipient
of a fundraising benfit at the Promenade
Playhouse at the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. We were
delighted to present a fun, electrifying night with Debra Wilson of "Mad
TV," and other talented actors performing the works of incarcerated youth in
compelling scenes from their lives, co-directed by Natalia Lazarus and Diane
Namm.
A packed house thrilled to the music of rappers KL, Suede and Fo' Real as they performed their inspirational songs about life on the streets. We were very honored that Cirque du Soleil generously sponsored ten tickets, so that our students' families and friends could watch them perform.
Many audience members won lots of incredible items at our Silent Auction. They learned a great deal from the Q & A with Debra Wilson and the other wonderful actors and singers.

Dreams
By Mario Rocha
(Central Juvenile Hall)
I may not be free to do many things but nothing can stop me from having these
dreams:
Dreams of going to college and obtaining an education that will help me achieve
my aspirations
Dreams of becoming the famous Chicano writer, M. Rocha, and one day writing
a play that will change someone's life
Dreams of writing movies that will help society understand "the barrio" and
let them see the realities of "street life"
Dreams of counseling and being there for a troubled child
Dreams of delivering the Good News of our Lord to those in need
Dreams of spending a whole day with my family and treasuring every single moment
Dreams of being out there to be the uncle that my nephews, Carlitos and Li'l
Danny, need
Dreams of enjoying the life of an average eighteen year old
Dreams of listening to some "Zeppelin" in my Kenwood stereo system,
making the whole house vibrate with intensity
Dreams of holding a girl in my arms, sharing a warm and loving feeling
Dreams of waking up at home and not in here
Dreams of using this talent which I have found to connect people of all races
and classes
Dreams of living these dreams
Dreams of freedom
