Welcome from the Development Director

Dear Friends,

As I am nearing the one year mark of my service with Create Now! I am more excited than ever to see the growth of this organization, our board of directors and new partners.  In the last year, we have served more youth than ever before, conducted more programs and look forward to more successful events in the coming months. We have reached a huge milestone, impacting in our 10 years, over 10,000 high-risk and at-risk youth.  As you know however, for every youth whose life we change, there are countless other children who are still in need.

With the arrival of fall and Thanksgiving approaching, think about giving thanks through a donation today.  Every dollar truly makes a difference.

I hope you will join us in celebrating our accomplishments at our next upcoming event.  From November 16-18, we have our annual production of LA Street Scenes 2: A Boy's Life, A Girl's Life directed by Diane Namm at the Edgemar Center for the Performing Arts in Santa Monica.  This moving performance evolved from two of our Write Now! programs and features stories about inspiring youth who have struggled to overcome their challenges and find hope.  Our VIP evening on Friday, November 16 also includes a silent auction with great items including trips, dinners at top restaurants, and tickets to venues throughout Southern California.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Art Unlocks Young Creative Minds

by Grace P. Chung

CNN Logo imageFrom the serene surrounding of Maryvale's property, one would never have guessed it was home to children who are victims of abuse and wards of the court.  Aside from the iron-clad gates at the front entrance, it looked just like any ordinary private school.  So was my first impression as I arrived there that first Saturday morning in July 2007.

SUCCESS STORIES
It's In the Bag!

At a time when arts organizations and extra-curricular activities are considered "frills," Create Now! knows the value of the arts is far-reaching, changing the lives of thousands of youth.  The impact of our work can be seen in the case of 16-year-old Shay, a resident at Vista Del Mar, a facility for abused, neglected and orphaned youth near Culver City.

OUR FEATURED SPONSOR

LYS & R Sponsor Successful Comedy Night Fundraiser

LYS & R logo imageLiner Yankelevitz Sunshine & Regenstreif LLP (LYS & R) sponsored our Third Annual Comedy Night, this year at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood.  We are grateful for their involvement in the event, which raised thousands of dollars for our youth programs.  Those in attendance had a great evening.  We laughed until our sides ached with five hilarious comedians, not to mention the fabulous hosting by our very own Debra Wilson Skelton, who was dynamic as ever!  Guests were also able to see Create Now! participants perform.  Special thanks to Tuneen Chisolm, Vice-Chairperson of the Create Now! board and attorney at LYS&R for forging this new relationship.
