Each year, The International House of Blues Foundation invites Create Now! participants to join in a special program honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The International House of Blues Foundation (IHOBF) is dedicated to bringing the arts to schools and communities through programs that increase public awareness of African American contributions to American culture.
They invite around 60 at-risk youth from Create Now!, along with some of the staff from their facilities, to attend a special program called "LIVING THE DREAM." The event is an exciting, multi-media arts presentation held at the House of Blues on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood, California.
Previous programs have included host Victoria Rowell, co-star of CBS's "Diagnosis Murder" and performances by Joy Greyson, La Paz, JAHA, the Shirley Martin Dancers, the First A.M.E. Youth Choir, KNU, the Sir Charles Blues Lab Student All-Star Band and the International Children's Choir.
Participants come from many of the facilities we serve including: L.A. Youth Network, which provides shelter and emergency services to runaway teens, Rosemary Children's Services, a residential facility for abused and neglected teenage girls, and Optimists Boys Home, a detention center for teenage boys. All of the participants were served breakfast. The youth received gift bags, including CDs, snacks and other souvenirs. Everyone who attended the event had a fantastic time, as they celebrated the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Create Now! is grateful to the International House of Blues Foundation for extending this invitation to our participants.
