MARCUS
Sometimes the happy and sad moments run together -- like for me it was getting with my girl Nisha.

Nisha enters.

NISHA
Hey Marcus --

Nisha cuddles up next to him.

MARCUS
I never had feelings like that before. I loved her, man. We use to walk every where together.

MARCUS and NISHA join hands, gaze into each other's eyes and appear to be walking side by side.

KANDISHA comes up and pulls her aside -- away from Marcus.

KANDISHA
Hey there, girl. You know your boy's been cheatin' on you, don't you?
Nisha pulls away from her friend and turns on Marcus.

NISHA
How could you do me like that?
Cheatin' on me --
(she smacks him)

MARCUS
Baby, I'm not. People just tryin' to break us up 'cause they mad that we got the best relationship in the school -- don't you see that?

NISHA
I'm sorry, Marcus -- I believe what they sayin.'

Nisha turns to walk away.

MARCUS
Nisha, wait. I love you --

Nisha stops.

NISHA
You mean that?

Marcus takes her into his arms and they kiss.

MARCUS
So everythin' was cool -- Until I run into Angel --

Nisha exits.
ANGEL enters. She slithers into Marcus's arms.

ANGEL
Hey there, Baby.

Marcus hugs her back. He DOESN'T SEE Kandisha enter and watch him.

KANDISHA
I knew it --

She turns and exits.
Kandisha whispers into Nisha's ear.

NISHA
I don't believe you --
Nisha turns away from her friend.

KANDISHA
What's true is true, girl -- whether you believe me or not.

Marcus struts back in.

MARCUS
Next day at school, I could see everybody was hatin' on me. And Nisha was surrounded by a whole lotta girls -- all of 'em talkin' 'bout me. So Nisha's comin' toward me -- and I'm actin' all cool, like, hey baby, whassup?

NISHA
Is what they all sayin' true?

MARCUS
What you mean?

NISHA
'Bout you an' Angel?

MARCUS
Don't know no angel but you --

Nisha's about to believe him.
Then Angel struts by. Winks at Marcus and ignores Nisha.
Nisha's crushed.

NISHA
You know what, baby? This ain' gonna work. I love you -- but I can't be with you no more.

Nisha leans in and kisses Marcus on the lips.

NISHA
Friends?

Marcus kisses her back.

MARCUS
I love you, baby --

Nisha steps back.

NISHA
Bye, Marcus.

MARCUS
So me and Nisha -- we was "friends" for a coupla months. There was a lotta girls who wanted to get with me. But I didn't want them. And there was a lotta guys who wanted to get with Nisha. Only I heard she didn't want to get with them neither. So I'm thinkin' maybe we still gotta chance -- but I didn' say nothin' to nobody about it, 'cause I'm a gang member -- and I got my pride -- So me and my homies -- we go to the football game -- and there she is.

TURON and Marcus strut.

TURON
Hey -- ain' that the girl who made you all weepy and shit --?

MARCUS
No --

Nisha comes up to Marcus.

NISHA
Hey, baby. What's doin'?

MARCUS
I know you?

Turon laughs.
Nisha looks hurt.

NISHA
That how it is? That how you want it?

Nisha walks away and doesn't look back.
Turon slaps Marcus on the back and walks off in the other direction.
Marcus stands alone. He watches Nisha walk away.

MARCUS
And that was the end of Nisha and me --
