Los Angeles has more foster youth and children facing homelessness than anywhere in the United States. California has the most incarcerated minors in the world. When I learned about this, I founded Create Now to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable kids, including talented children who live in under-served communities. Thanks to our wonderful program staff, Create Now’s Board of Directors, and especially all the phenomenal artists who have taught our classes and volunteers, Create Now has reached over 50,000 young people since 1996.
After 25 years of building this organization, the time has come for me to step aside as the CEO of Create Now and “pass the torch” to someone else. Brandon Dean Johnson has been with our organization for six years as a volunteer, mentor, and board member. He will now be leading Create Now as the new CEO. I’ll be joining the Board of Directors and providing my skills and knowledge to help us flourish.
This is an exciting change for Create Now, and me personally. I worked for many years in film production as a script supervisor with A-list actors and directors in exotic locations all over the world while simultaneously juggling a writing career. I’ve published three books, and a few of my screenplays were optioned. Two were produced with well-known actors. I’m almost finished writing my memoir, “What You Give Is What You Get,” and I can now promote these projects.
I’m also thrilled to be included in the upcoming coffee-table book, “100 Making a Difference,” along with Steven Spielberg, Oprah, Michelle Obama, Eva Longoria, and many other celebrities. It will be available on Amazon later this year, with proceeds shared amongst all the featured charities.
We really appreciate your ongoing support of Create Now, which makes it possible for our team to empower youth through arts education and mentoring.
With heartfelt gratitude,
